Published Date: November 05, 2024 4 min Read

Introduction

IS 779:1994 is an Indian standard for domestic water meters under BIS Certification. Measuring household water consumption, being quite viable and indispensable these days, has also made the water supply system with correct billing and management possible. Domestic water meters are used inside houses to monitor and control water usage, providing consumers with the convenience of tracking and utility companies with the ability to charge for actual usage.

With increasing efforts towards water conservation, the demand for efficient water meters is growing, strengthening the market. To sell these water meters in India, they have to be certified under BIS. BIS stands for Bureau of Indian Standards. Its role is to ensure that products are nationally and internationally acceptable in terms of safety and quality. The ISI mark will confirm this compliance. With an ISI mark, importing and exporting will be easy. Fees and licensing details for online BIS applications are available on the BIS website.
