BIS CERTIFICATION FOR HDPE PP WOVEN SACKS
IS 14968:2015
In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.
To get BIS certification and produce a
standard quality product, the manufacturer must ensure that their
product must follow the specified Indian standard.
Let's take a closer look at IS 14968:2015 for HDPE/PP Woven sacks for packaging sugar.
HDPE/PP Woven sacks for packaging sugar are covered under IS 14968:2015. This standard specifies the requirements for HDPE/PP woven sacks used for the sugar packaging. Woven sacks made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE)/Polypropylenes (PP) are already used to pack fertilizer and cement.
The manufacturer shall ensure that the sacks must meet the specifications mentioned in the standard. The high density polyethylene (HDPE) or polypropylene (PP) used to make tape must meet the requirements stated in standard.
The fabric used to make HDPE/PP woven sacks must be woven as a tube on circular looms from HDPE/PP tapes with a width of 2.5cm that conforms to IS 6192 and IS 11197, respectively. HDPE/PP tape shall be used for sewing.
Tests
The following test shall be carried out for HDPE/PE woven sacks.
- Raw material test
- Fabric & tape
- Dimensional stability
- Tensile test
- Heat shrinkage
- Ash content
- Breaking strength
A laboratory shall be adequately maintained, in which the various tests shall be carried out according to the methods specified in the standard.
The printing on sacks shall conform to the requirements of IS 14968:2015. Printing, packing, and labelling must be done in accordance with the standard. The standard mark (ISI Mark) may also be applied to each bale containing HDPE/PP sacks. Furthermore, each sack must be clearly labelled with a visible recycling logo. The Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). The BIS grants a license based on a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control and testing capabilities, and production process.
