BIS CERTIFICATION FOR RUBBER MICROCELLULAR SHEETS FOR SOLES & HEELS

In this competitive scenario, it isn't easy to survive in the market without a standard quality and certified product. BIS license may also be required to sell products in the Indian market.

To get BIS certification and produce a standard quality product, the manufacturer must ensure that their product must follow the specified Indian standard.
Let's take a closer look at IS 6664:1992 for rubber microcellular sheets for soles and heels.

Rubber microcellular sheets for soles and heels are covered under IS 6664:1992. Rubber microcellular sheets are used to produce and repair footwear soles and heels made by a stuck-on process.

This standard specifies the requirements, sampling methods, and tests for rubber microcellular sheets used to make cut soles and heels from general-purpose elastomers and intended for use in footwear.

The material shall also comply with the physical requirements given in the standard. The size of the cut soles and heels shall be according to IS 1638: 1969. The colour and design on the surfaces of the sheets or components shall be agreed upon by the purchaser and the manufacturer.

The rubber used shall be made from natural or synthetic rubbers or a combination of the two. The rubber must be vulcanized, homogeneous, and free of sulphur bloom. The surface shall be free from cavities, blisters, collapses and blemishes.

Tests

The following test shall be carried out.

  • Hardness Test
  • Test for Compression Set at Constant Stress
  • Split Tear Strength Test
  • Shrinkage Test
  • Water Absorption Test

A laboratory shall be maintained, in which the various tests shall be carried out as per the methods defined in the standard.

Each sole and heel or the sheet shall be marked in accordance with IS 6664:1992. The product may also be marked with the ISI standard mark (ISI Mark), and packaging and marking must be done in accordance with the standards. The Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). The BIS grants a license based on a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control and testing capabilities, and production process.

If a product falls under the scope of the BIS Conformity Assessment Scheme, All the manufacturers, importers, and foreign entities must obtain BIS ISI Certification. The Bureau may cancel the License if the product fails to meet certification requirements.
