Indian Standards for Digital TV Receivers, USB Type C Connectors, and VSS

The Bureau of Indian Standards has published three significant Indian Standards in the field of electronics.

The first standard is for digital television receivers with built-in satellite tuners. The Bureau of Indian Standards has published an Indian Standard IS 18112:2022 Specification for televisions with built-in satellite tuners through its technical committee. TVs manufactured as per this Indian standard would be able to receive Free-To-Air TV and Radio channels simply by connecting a dish antenna with an LNB mounted on a suitable place, such as the building's rooftop or side wall.

The second standard is for USB Type C receptacles, plugs, and cables. The Indian standard IS/IEC 62680-1-3:2022 specification for USB Type-C Cable and Connector has been issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards. This Indian standard is adapted from the international standard IEC 62680-1-3:2022.

This Specification provides the requirements for USB Type-C ports, plugs, and cables for usage in a wide range of electronic devices such as mobile phones, laptop computers, notebooks etc. This standard would provide common charging solutions for cell phones and other electronic devices. This would enable a reduction in the number of chargers per consumer because users would no longer need to purchase multiple chargers each time, they purchased a new gadget. This would contribute to the Government of India's goal of reducing e-waste and moving toward sustainable development.

The third standard is for video surveillance systems. The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has published a set of Indian Standards (IS 16910) on Video Surveillance Systems for use in Security Applications. IS 16910 series of the standard is an adaptation of the International Standard IEC 62676. The standard specifies guidelines for efficient system installation. It provides a detailed outline of all aspects of a Video Surveillance System, such as requirements for its components such as camera devices, interfaces, system requirements, and tests to determine the image quality of the camera devices.
