BIS QCO EXTENSION FOR AIR CONDITIONER AND ITS RELATED PARTS
Earlier, The Ministry of Commerce and Industry issued the Air Conditioner and its related Parts, Hermetic Compressor, and Temperature Sensing Controls (Quality Control) Order, 2019, to ensure standard compliance and the mandatory use of standard marks.
As per this QCO, Air Conditioner and its related Parts, Hermetic Compressor, and Temperature Sensing Controls must comply with the corresponding Indian standard and bear the Indian Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards as per Scheme I of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standard (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
According to this QCO, the following products must meet the applicable Indian standards and bear the standard ISI mark.

Initially, it was likely to come into force from 01.06.2020, but the deadline has been extended to Jan 1, 2023, to satisfy demands from industry stakeholders.
However, industry stakeholders are requesting BIS for further extension of time to comply with the provisions of BIS. In consultation with BIS, the Government of India is planning to extend the timeline for six months for compliance of the Air Conditioner and its related Parts, Hermetic Compressor, and Temperature Sensing Controls.
It is mandatory to obtain BIS certification for Air conditioners to use the standard ISI mark. The Bureau grants a BIS license to the manufacturer for the product that complies with Indian standards. All manufacturers must obtain BIS licence for Air conditioners and their related parts to use the ISI mark. The manufacturer must ensure that their product complies with all applicable Indian standards to receive BIS certification.
